What is prepping?
Who am I?
My name's Matt, I am a resident of the Bay Of Plenty in New Zealand.
I have an interest in hunting, fishing, camping and general outdoors life. My
interest in prepping has grown from this.
We live in a volatile area and are constantly reminded of this by the flooding, earthquakes and other natural events that keep us on our toes. In 1987 we suffered a 6.2 mag. earthquake. I was at school, aged 14. We had no high buildings, therefore, little damage, the dairy factory suffered toppled silos and there were some strange looking railway tracks afterwards. There were no deaths and no injuries to anyone I knew. We were lucky. That earthquake in a large centre may have had very different results. In 2004 we had significant flooding that resulted in 100's of home's being uninhabitable, I owned one of them. We lost services, eletricity, water and sewerage. Many people were left homeless. In 2005 we had a mud laha vertually destroy an outlying town, again, many homeless and services disrupted. These few events have, along with the recent Christchurch earthquake, reignited my interest in being prepared. Luckily, my wife is of similar mindset, and we will raise our kids to know that they need to be able to protect themselves in these situations as well. We also have a very active volcano, just 26 miles from our coast!
When we talk about 'Prepping', sometime's people tend to get a bit suspicious, they look at you funny, like you're from another planet, they think of names like 'Doomsday' and 'Cults' and think of communes with no power or sanitary conveniences. To me, prepping is just a way of life, but I'm not at all paranoid. I believe that being ready to survive a flood, an earthquake or a bushfire is just about having the right frame of mind, a few stored supplies and a plan. Often, when we hear the word Prepper, we instantly think of the Americans who are shown on TV as fundamentalist nutters, look on the net and see the video's on survivalists and doomsday preppers, it's not surprising that many 'normal' folk have no time for it.
By the time they have their revolver, ammo for the revolver, spare ammo, spare revolver, semi auto 9mm, ammo, spare ammo, 45 auto, ammo, spare 9mm, spare 45 ammo, shotgun, shotgun ammo, hunting rifles, knives, mace, stunguns, zombie ammo, spare shot gun and spare batteries for the stun gun, they dont have any room left for food and water!
So i thought I'd start producing a few videos more relevant to what we might expect to face here in NZ. If you like, take a look at my YouTube channel

I have a few video's up there already covering prepping and first aid, i have a few more ideas for new videos detailing more of that type of thing, also instructionals on reloading, shooting, fishing, some of my hobbies etc, but I see the channel being mostly concerned with surviving natural disasters and getting ready to provide for yourself and your family.
It is in my opinion that we should all have a plan. What will we do, where will we go, what will we take, eat, drink, use to keep warm and healthy. Far too much information for anyone to be bothered reading in a webpage, but hopefully interesting enough to watch in a video form.
There will be thing's that I dont talk about, due to perhaps, not considering them important, relevant or maybe I'll just not think to include them, please ask if you want to know something I may have left out, or not yet gotten around to. Please, feel free to have a look, comment, critique and ask questions, and i'll do my best to present the best information I can.
